Teeth Whitening, or tooth bleaching as it is sometimes called, is a relatively easy and non-invasive treatment that can improve and change the color of natural tooth enamel. Many patients have used this simple procedure to greatly enhance their smile.
There are a number ways to whiten teeth. You only have to watch television to see companies selling a home-use tooth whitening system. The fallacy with using these types of products is that they only work on natural tooth enamel.
Before proceeding with your teeth whitening procedure Dr. Eifler will evaluate the potential impact old fillings and crowns will have. The reason – you should not do any whitening process until after you have completed any type of restoration to ensure all teeth match in color. If you have fillings or crowns after your whitening they may not match the rest of your teeth.
An examination appointment with Dr. Eifler is highly recommended before proceeding with any teeth whitening. Please understand that Teeth Whitening is not a permanent solution to white teeth. You may need to revisit the office every few years for a touch-up. If you drink tea, coffee, or wine you may need to see the doctor more regularly.
Reasons Teeth need Whitened:
Teeth Whitening is usually a two-appointment process.
During your initial appointment we will make impressions/molds of your teeth. This mold will be a custom tray that will replicate the shape of your teeth.
At your second appointment, we will have you place the tray inside your mouth to ensure a proper fit. While at home you will wear these trays with a whitening solution. You can wear the tray overnight for a few weeks or twice per day for approximately thirty minutes each. Dr. Eifler will advise you as to the length of time you may need to wear the tray, as it depends also upon the degree of your teeth stains or level of whitening that you desire.
Be aware that you may experience tooth sensitivity during this process but it normally subsides after you have ended the whitening procedure. AZ Valley Dental will provide you with detailed care instructions before you leave our office. Be sure to set regular cleaning and exam appointments with Dr. Eifler to maintain your beautiful and vibrant smile.
