Digital X Rays

Digital X Rays - The Latest In Technology

Digital X-Rays are current technology that uses an electronic sensor to capture and store digital images. Old x-ray technology used film that contained a lot more radiation. The new type of Digital X-Ray used by AZ Valley Dental reduces radiation by about 80-90%, a sizeable reduction. In addition, it eliminates the need to discard old film and chemicals that may be harmful to the environment.

In just about any type of dental procedure x-rays are vital. They are used as a preventative and diagnostic tool that give Dr. Eifler much needed information that may not be visible to the naked eye during a routine exam.

Dr. Eifler and his hygienists use the information gleaned from Digital X-Rays to detect hidden dental problems or oncoming issues. This helps our office diagnose and arrive at an accurate conclusion as to how to best treat virtually any dental condition. Without the use of X-Rays, certain abnormalities might go undetected.

We use Dental X-Rays to discover:

  • Decay
  • Bone loss
  • Abnormalities
  • Cysts or Abscesses
  • Tumors
  • Poor root or teeth positions
  • Hidden trouble areas inside a tooth or below a gum line
  • Dental issues forming in their early stage

How Safe are Digital X-Rays?

There is radiation naturally occurring in our environment that we are all exposed to. Old x-ray technology potentially exposed the patient to a significantly more radiation. However, Digital x-rays produce significantly less radiation compared to old, traditional methods. Digital X-Rays are less harmful to the patient. Another benefit – Digital X-Rays are faster for the office to take and develop and patients find them a lot more comfortable than old style x-rays. All of which speeds up your appointment time. We capture the digital images electronically, which means there is no need to dispose any potentially harmful waste or chemicals into the environment.

Our office still takes precautions to limit your exposure to radiation, even though Digital X-Rays produce a low level of radiation, by using lead apron shields over your body. We only take x-rays that Dr. Eifler deems necessary for your best dental success and treatment.

X-Rays – How Often?

Dr. Eifler and your hygienist will determine how often you need to have dental x-rays. For the most part, this will be determined by you. Depending upon your medical and dental history as well as any potential abnormalities that are found Dr. Eifler will make that determination with you. For this reason we highly encourage you to practice excellent dental hygiene by brushing twice a day and flossing daily, combined with regular cleanings and checkups.

Full Mouth X-Rays – recommended for all new patients. These are usually good for 3 – 5 years.

Bite Wing X-Rays – recommended once or twice per year.
