Dentures & Partial Dentures

Dentures and Partial Dentures

Dentures are removable appliances used as a replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissue. When done properly dentures will replicate your natural teeth so that no one will know the difference. The goal is to enhance your smile’s natural beauty.

You may need dentures or partial dentures. Dr. Eifler will advise you as to the best option. As the name implies, dentures are used when all your teeth are missing. Partial dentures are used when your mouth still has natural teeth remaining. As always, our goal is to help you retain natural teeth where possible. Partial dentures will fill in gaps left by missing teeth and helps prevent teeth from shifting.

Conventional dentures are made once your teeth are removed and gun tissue has had healing time. This process can take 4-6 weeks and you will be without teeth during this time.

Immediate dentures will be made in advance. You will receive the dentures immediately at your next scheduled appointment and not have to go without teeth thereafter. However, once the healing process is complete there may be adjustments that are needed. This is normal and expected. A follow up appointment will be made with you.

Dr. Eifler anticipates that your dentures will last many years and be very durable for you. There may be times when they need readjustments due to normal wear and use.

The Process of Getting Dentures

Dentures are a multi-appointment process that could stretch over a few weeks. Molds and measurements are taken. These molds will be used to create your custom dentures. Dr. Eifler will have you wear the dentures and let him know if any adjustments need to be made. That is one reason denture appointments require a few weeks. It is necessary for Dr. Eifler to ensure the proper fit and comfort for you. The goal is a precise fit that will give you a natural feel and beautiful smile.

With the use of new dentures you may experience soreness, temporary speech and chewing difficulty, and an increase in saliva. All of these experiences will subside once your tissues and muscles adjust to the new dentures.

Dr. Eifler and his staff will provide you with thorough instructions on caring for your new dentures. Keep in mind that proper cleaning is very important to maintain your new dentures.
